Our History |
Duel Volleyball's first summer youth camps were held in 2010, birthed out of a friendship developed with Dave LePeau and Angela Vande Mheen at the state tournament in 2009. Small school coaches from Academy of Tucson, The Gregory School and Desert Christian banded together to run a higher caliber camp than any could do on their own. The goal was to improve small school volleyball in southern Arizona. Athletes who had previously played only as opponents across the net from one another were now practicing and improving their skills side by side. Since it's inaugural summer, Duel Volleyball Camp has welcomed hundreds of athletes and coaches from all over the Tucson area, big schools and small. Since our founding coaches from the schools mentioned above qualified for the state tournament (top 16 teams in state) 12 times with two final four finishes.
As incredible as coaching is, sometimes its fun to just play. Shortly after summer camps, Duel began running regular tournaments for co-ed adults. These tournaments allow former players to once again experience the joys that volleyball brings in a competitive, fun environment and provide the community at large an affordable, low-commitment opportunity to step on the court. With the increased success of camps, in 2015 Duel expanded to offer youth club teams affiliated with USA Volleyball in the Arizona Region. In our first season, Duel fielded four teams where athletes bonded together, refined their specialized skills, and played their hearts out against some of the best players in the state. |
